((So where do you want to go? Do you Jess to become like more obsessed wwith the case and like she' searching throughe thfiles, trying to get her father earrested...you know maybe following him around or trying to get Eris back herself...?
And I just PP charries she interacts with?))
(( Yeah I can definitely see her doing that, maybe she tries to appeal the case at some point, and tries to get more money so she can hire a better lawyer, etc. I don't want to wait too long, because Eris is a big part of the story as well :) Okay, so right now she basically spends every waking hour at the station trying to find something to prove her father is truly guilty ))
The chief took note of Jess's appearance and made a note too keep an eye on her during the day and make sure she didn't over exert herself.
"Hey Jess you are right?" he asked dropping by ehr desk with a coffee, putting it on her desk." he said.
Jess jolted when the chief approached her desk. She had been nodding off, but the coffee he had just given her should certainly do the trick. Reaching for the coffee, she took a sip and sighed happily. "Thanks, just what I needed." she mumbled as she continued skimming through files. "I'm good. Great actually. I think I've got enough evidence to appeal the case, and if I put in some extra hours each day then I should be able to afford to hire a better, more experienced lawyer." she declared firmly, with confidence.
"Don't forget your doctor appointent." The chief reminded Jess, he turned and walke dto his office, reminding himself to keep an eye on her, amke sure she tookc are of herself.
A young officer came up the stairs,
"Here are the file on Kraten Winter." he said, putting a few manilla folder on the desk,
"That's all we have for criminal records." he said, turning he left.
"Right! Of course! Doctor's appointment...." Jess murmured trailing off. She had debated skipping it, she wanted to get more stuff done here so she could appeal the case to the court. A young officer placed a new file on her desk, containing all records of her father. "Thank you so much officer! This is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate you finding this for me..." she murmured as she began sifting through the various records inside the envelope.
((Should we skip ahead? You don't really have much to post and I feel bad! If we go a few weeks later, she could have appealed the case, gotten a new lawyer, and skipped her doctors appointments in the process? ))
((Yeah sure.(Do you want to skip over the appeal?))
(( Yeah I'm not feeling the whole court thing again haha :) ))
The chief looked worriedly at Jess, she'd ben missing doctor appointments and her appeal had just been struck down. He walked over to her desk,
"Jess, go to the doctors." he commanded gruffly,
"You need to get your head checked out for that tumor. I'm sorry to say this but you have to back off of Eris adn her father the court won't be happy if you keep appealing this." he explained.
Jess looked up at the chief, her eyes noticeably bloodshot. "I know, I know. I just... I miss Eris. A lot. I want to, I need to get her back." she whispered wistfully. She had appealed last week, and her dad was going on trial once more with a different judge. The person she had spoken to said she would hear the results in a week or so. Any day now, she would hear whether or not she would regain at least partial custody of Eris. "I'll go to my doctor tomorrow.... l promise." she muttered, exhaustion evident in her voice.
((Sorry for disappearing))
"You had better, Jess, if you don't I will put you on forced leave and make you go." the cheif said.
Jess was getting to obcessive about Eris in his opinion, the child had shown up the appeal hearing and in cheif's opinion had looked fine. A little thinner and paler but not horrible. She been dressed in perfectly fine clothes, a jean jacket, white blouse, jeans, and tennis shoes but she didn't look injured, her hair had been cut short too.
The cheif was starting to think that Daddy's story he told on the witness stand was true after all Eris hadn't looked abused when she'd shown up. The only odd thing was that she hadn't spokn a single word through the whole hearing and had only looked at her hands, which were in her lap, the desk, or her shoes. She was still in her wheel chair but cheif guessed she'd be allowed out of that soon.
Eris was breathing softly, she was huddled up in a lower cabinet at her 'home' in the kitchen. Her father had taken her clothes and forced her to wash the make up off as soon as they'd gottten home from the retrial last week. Eris heard her father banging arund in the kitchen,
"I'm gonna find you, Eris, and then you'll pay, girl, you don't ruin my clothes by washing them wrong and not pay.
Eris chewed her fingernails, or rather the stubs that used to be her finger nails, she'd bitten them down si much she barely had any left. She was scared, she'd accidently put bleach in the darks load and had ruined some of Daddy's dress clothes.
(( No worries it's all good!!! :-) ))
Jess sighed loudly. "I'll go, I'll go. I promise. In fact, I'll go now." she declared. She stood up shakily from her desk and quickly packed away her things, most of which included evidence she had used at the apppeal and her phone which she was awaiting a call from. As she stood up to leave her vision went black for a moment as if she was going to pass out. Not wanting to tell the chief, she gave him a smile and sped out the door before he could say anything.
She drove at top speed to the doctors. They took her in right away because she had missed so many appointments and desperately needed to be examined.
"We're going to do another MRI to see how the tumor is doing." the nurse explained quickly.
When the MRI was finished, her doctor came in to review the results. "It appears as if the tumor has grown. We are going to need to operate as soon as possible or you could die within the year. When should we schedule your surgery?"
Jess bit her lip. Never! was what she wanted to answer. "Next week?" she said with a grimace.
The doctor nodded,
"Next Thursday I want in here for a final exam and prep and you'll have surgery. Friday morning you'll have surgery.
Recovery we'll want to keep a close eye on you, for the first few days maybe even weak you will feel worse probably but it will get better there maybe some long term effects we need to watch." the doctor explained. He wrote some things down,
"Go home and rest for now, do not stress relax." the doctor explained.
The doctor was the same who had taken care of Eris,
"I have a question, where's the little girl that was in here? She hasn't coem in for any new appointments to check on her back, I need to make sure there's no permenant damage, she needs to come in." he said.
Jess nodded absent-mindedly, hardly listening to the doctor. "Yeah... Friday.." she murmured softly. At the mention of Eris, she snapped back to focus. "Eris? Oh um, yes she is living with her father, if you can even call him that." she muttered irritably. Pushing down her anger, she exhaled deeply. "I don't want to bore you with the details, but we went to court and long story short, her father is now her guardian. I had been prior to the recent incident with him, but for some reason the judge appeared to be blind to my side of the story. And his lawyer was just so experienced, and mine was on his first day on the job. I recently appealed the case with a new judge and a new lawyer. I've been waiting to hear back from the court about the results. That's why I've been skipping my own appointments...." she uttered softly, her voice trailing off. "Anyways, let's just say her father doesn't take the best care of her, which is probably why she hasn't showed up to any of the appointments."
The doctor nodded sadly,
"We have some people like that...unless he claims 'natural remedies' or 'religious views that disagree with treatment' I need to see her again to make sure she doesn't need a back brace and make sure she isn't hurting herself by walking or something.
If you know a way for me to contact him I'd like that and if he refuses to comply I may have to involve CPS." The doctor explained.
