Teen Ink on Twitter
Q: How do I submit work to the magazine and website?
A: The easiest way is to submit online and follow our simple instructions.
Q: How long will it take for my work to be approved?
A: All work is read by our editorial staff to be certain it is up to our standards. This could take a few days to a month depending upon the volume we receive in that category. Thank you for your patience. We guarantee that we spend the time to read every submission and then give each and every piece the attention it deserves.
Q: How will I know if my work is approved for the website or magazine?
A: If you are approved for the website you will receive an e-mail from our staff. If you are approved for our magazine you will receive a free copy in the mail along with a congratulatory letter and other small prizes.
Q: Can I post something my friend wrote?
A: Absolutely NOT. You may only submit original pieces written entirely yourself. You can also only submit original artwork done by yourself and photos taken by yourself. You may not submit photos of yourself if they were taken by someone else.
Q: If I submit a piece anonymously can I still receive comments and ratings on it?
A: Yes, however we still need your information for our confidential records before we can approve it.
Q: I did not choose to be anonymous, but my piece was approved as anonymous—Why?
A: After reading the work if we feel it is of a sensitive nature the editor may decide to make it anonymous. If you would like to discuss this decision please feel free to call us or e-mail the editor.
Q: How can I delete a piece that is on the website?
A: Just email firstname.lastname@example.org with a link to your piece and we’ll remove it. Please tell us why you want it removes.
Q: How can I delete a forum post or thread?
A: If you would like to delete a whole thread, email editor@teenink with a link to the thread and your reason for wanting it removed. If you would like to delete a particular post, click the “Report abuse” link on that post and include your reason for wanting it removed.
Q: When you click on my name, it does not link to my profile. How can I fix this?
A: If you have any punctuation in your username, try removing those as they may interfere with accessing your profile. Otherwise, email email@example.com with any problems. Please be specific and detailed with the errors you are encountering
Q: When someone clicks “View All Works By User” in my profile, it isn’t showing all the work.
A: Only the twenty most recent pieces are shown in your profile.
Q: How can I change my avatar?
A: Log into your account. Under the “About Me” tab, click on the “Upload Avatar” link. Hit the yellow “Save my Changes” button at the bottom of the page.
Q: I have tried to upload a picture as an avatar several times and it says it saves it, but the picture never shows up.
A: It can take a while for a new avatar to show up on your profile. If you don’t see it after 24 hours, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: I would like to edit my work that has already been posted on TeenInk, how can I do this?
A: There is no live-edit option since every submission needs to be reviewed by an editor. You can submit a reconstructed piece to the website again. When your revised version is approved, e-mail email@example.com with the link to your old version and we’ll remove it.
Q: Will my forum thread get deleted if it isn’t very popular?
A: No, but if the thread is of improper content or contains an improper line of conversation it will be removed.
Q: How will I know if my piece is NOT approved for the website or magazine?
A: If your piece has been deemed inappropriate, it will simply disappear from the submissions pending list in your account.
Q: What is the character minimum and maximum for forum posts and submitted work?
A: There is a 10 character minimum required, and up to 10,000 characters maximum.
Why is there a 10 character minimum?
I think it is to prevent spam.
What happens to our account when we became no more teens?
SOMEONE HELP PLEASE When I hit the SUBMIT button a blue little notice appears saying I have to check the box saying "this is my own original work" although I already have checked it...I tried logging off and back on and EVERYTHING but i still can't submit anything...
same thing happens to me too. This is driving me nuts
Yeah, me too.
that happens whenever I try to submit art... some art I have gotten through but it has taken literally months to be published, it still isn't out!
Is there a teen ink website desgined specifically for mobile devices. If not, I say that someone create one!(:
Moderator, I have presented this issue to you before and thank you because it has been fixed. But it is happening again: andquot; is appearing in place of every quotation. Right now it is happening in my piece, "Browsing Frozen Memories". Is there some sort of html code I could use to avoid this? I don't see why it is happening again. Also, I have found that often times when I add additional tags, they appear under the Author's Notes....I have avoided putting in tags because of this and it has resulted in very few views. Please help!
Moderator! My profile pic and profile aren't showing up! I really wish they would- in fact I can't even access my "see my stuff" page. -_- I'm really frustrated cuz my purple dinosaur profile pic is so cute and I want people to be able to see it! HELP!!! -Lizzie
I had a few errors on my account such as my articles getting approved, but then staying on the pending approval list-I fixed that by deleting the pend approval ones, and haven't had that problem since. I also couldn't get in an avatar-I would load it in and then press the save changes button, but it just wouldn't save. Somehow it managed to save one time, but it wasn't the pic I wanted and now it's doing the same thing all over again and I can't change my avatar...sorry if this is a bit long, but I was curious if anyone else had the same issues?
As of late, it's seemed that, on the forums at least, line breaks are very iffy and often don't work. This is supposed to be a second paragraph, for example. If it is a second paragraph, then I suppose the issue must have already been fixed.
What do you do when the same person keeps coming back and rating your pictures as "1 stared"? Its driving me nuts!
If I were to post a story on the forums, could I later submit it to the website?
TheCapturedBat: Yeah, when you submit to the forums it's useful for feedback and peer editing. Then you can post the edited and changed story on the actual website. I'm no mod, but I hope this helps. C:
Mod: There have been days when some people can't post on the teenink forums. I know it's not just mine because other people have been talking about not being able to post things. What's going on and can it be fixed soon?
This problem occured some days ago, but this was, as far as I know, to make some minor changes. Now you can post at your will.:D
Is there a bug with the ratings? Some of my work has been showing fewer ratings than I know it has received.
I'm not sure where this question goes, so I'll ask it here. In profiles, under hobbies and favorites, there used to be a tab for 'Favorite People in My Life.' That tab is not there anymore, but the people are still listed and shown on my profile. This has changed since I first entered the names, but I have no way of either changing it or taking it off of my profile, as far as I know. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
