Today

Today I held the door open for a stranger
and returned a lost ID

Today I gave directions to a frantic mother
and no one thanked me

Today I helped an old man up the stairs
and asked the cashier about his day

Today I packed food boxes at Care and Share
and went along my way

Today I recycled
and donated some mittens and gloves

Today I called my brother
to remind him he is loved

Today I respected my teachers
and followed every rule

Today I let someone go ahead in line
and told a girl her jeans were cool

Today I gave away my 30 percent coupon
and lent someone change for gas

Today I answered truthfully
every question I was asked

Today I comforted a friend
and picked up some trash on the ground

Today I didn't dwell on the bad
but the happiness I had found

Today I was thankful
and joyful and kind

Today I was friendly
and I danced a little with life

Today I felt good
being the best that I could be
I am history in the making
and no one knows but me
