Two men stood apart on the same sidewalk,
Next to a labelled drinking fountain.
One man black, one man white;
they had their thirst in common.
Yet their ancestors' harsh ideas were present,
and they simply walked away.
They moved along two lonely paths
that would cross again in another generation.
