The most powerful feeling in the world is love. Without love. the world would be a horrible mess of hatred and hurt feelings. With, who knows, maybe no peace at all. Love...makes the world go round. Sometimes, it gives people the strength to wake up in the morning and go to work or school. Because there' something out there, that loves them. At this moment in time, your soul mate is on this earth, most likely living, and you don't even know it yet! Unless, you have already found that special someone. There's someone out there for everyone. Why would you want to take that away from someone because of your lack of acceptance?
That's another thing that makes the world go round..acceptance. Accepting people for who they are. If no one accepted people, how would we go on? As human beings, living in our world that we have developed into what it is today? The world today is full of judging, bullying, and people who are so ignorant that they cannot seem to just...accept. To say, "You are different from me, but I will support your feelings, even if I do not know you, because you really need that acceptance." Everyone, really needs that acceptance.
Imagine, you are a guy and you like guys. Or, you're a girl and you like girls. Now, I don't know what lesbian or gay people go through, but I imagine that it must be a lot. I care about everyone around me, no matter what race, what gender, what sexuality. So, you love someone who is the same gender. This is what your day might be like...
You wake up in the morning.
You go eat breakfast in the morning.
"Mom, Dad, I'm gay." you say out of the blue.
You couldn't take the hiding anymore, you had to tell your family.
Your family sits in silence and stares at you with big eyes, mouths wide open in complete shock.
This look they give you, kills you a little inside.
Time to go to school.
Last month, a guy from homeroom announced you were gay on Facebook.
He was your best friend, before he betrayed you.
You walk through the hallways, going to your next class.
Stares.
All you get is mean, nasty stares.
They are so mean...that they make your skin crawl.
It seems like every single pair of eyes is on you and only you.
That's how it's been everyday for a month, since the little Facebook incident.
And that, is why you want to end your life.
You decide that you will do it tonight.
A quick shot to the head, that's all it will take.
Then, the judging will stop,
Then, people will care.
School ends and you're afraid to go home.
Afraid your family will give you the same glares that your former-friends gave you, while you walked silently pass them in the dark school hallways.
You are now afraid of your own family.
You walk through the door, and there's your mother.
Not a single word she gives you.
Not a single glance.
Not a single hug or accepting word.
Well, let's just say you saw that coming.
Dinner is horrible,
You sit with the people you call your "family".
The silence screams.
After you eat not a bite of your food,
You go to your room.
You stole your dads gun.
It's time.
You're ready.
Ready to end it.
You bring the gun up to your temple.
Then you hear a ring.
It's your cell phone.
You haven't heard it ring in a month.
"Hello?" you say in a shaky voice.
You're wondering who the heck is calling you.
"Hey." you've never heard this mysterious voice before.
"I just want you to know that you have my acceptance." the voice spoke with kindness.
The phone hung up.
Silence.
You put the gun down.
Then, you feel a bit happier.
Now, fast forward 15 years.
Your life is pretty good.
You have a good job and a fiance.
Just one problem...your fiance is the same gender has you.
You were planning to get married next month.
But you can't.
Wanna know why?
Because gay marriage isn't legalized.
You've just learned what it's like to be gay. I don't know how it feels to be like that, and I'm glad. But a part of me feels sorry for the people that have to go through that everyday of their lives. The number of teen suicides in American is astonishing. Along with astonishing, it's kind of scary. In 1993, 4,960 gay and lesbian teens killed themselves. Now, I'm not going to give you the number of suicides in 2011 and 2012, because it's heartbreaking. With all the technology these days, rumors spread very quickly.
So tell me...why should love have a gender? Who are YOU to say what true love should be? Yes, maybe love was meant to be between a girl and a boy. But, things change over time and society evolves into something different.
Some people say that God hates gays, or that gay people are evil. What makes them evil, exactly? The fact that they are in love with the same gender? Yet, war isn't evil, killing for fun isn't evil (hunting), and hatred for other countries isn't evil? To me, this makes no sense.
So, before you look at gay or lesbian people and instantly judge them, think. Is it worth it? Why should I care about their live style? Because, boys and girls, LOVE HAS NO GENDER.
