Swore that I would leave this God-forsaken town the second I turned 18,
I mean what I say and I say what I mean.
And this a promise I know I’ll keep,
I’ll buy a one-way ticket
Cause I'm not coming back,
I’ve got money in my pocket and clothes in my sack.
I’ll hug everyone goodbye,
While a crowd passes by,
My mother will cry,
And not want to let go.
But she’ll know,
She’ll understand this dream I have,
To go to the big city,
And abandon my name of “country girl.”

I've turned 18,
I'm ready to go on my own,
To leave this town,
This town I have known.
I'm starting anew.
I’ve got my ticket to my new life in my hand right here,
Luggage trailing behind me,
On my cheek lies a tear.
Here it is a one-way ticket away from this little town,
No round trip is needed because I'm not coming back ‘round.
This is the right choice, I know.
I’ll fight for my country,
I’ll fight for me.
I’ve got money in my pocket and clothes in my sack.
I've hugged everyone goodbye,
While the diverse crowd passed by.
I comfort my mother as she cries,

And I can tell she doesn’t want to let go.
But she knows,
She understands this dream I have,
To go to the big city,
And abandon my name of “country girl.”
I looked out of the train window,
And that was the first time I have seen my father cry.
I ask myself one last time if this is what I really want to do,
But then I realized it’s too late to go back.
I pressed my face against the cold glass leaving a cloud,
I get lost in the crowd,
As the train begins to move,
And I breathe in,
And my soul I try to soothe.
