The insistent beating of my heart
Incessantly ticking like a clock.
Filling every silence
Thump-Thump Tick Tock Tick Tock.

Somehow you stole the stopwatch
Counting the beats of my heart.
You push all the wrong buttons
And slow my pulse when we're apart.

But every time I see you
Time rushes by too fast.
With my accelerated heart rate
Too soon present becomes past.

Other times I see you
And time itself stands still.
My heart shudders under your touch
And pumps blood newly fueled by thrill.

It's the perfect moments spent with you,
Whether fleeting or blissfully long
That bring a smile to my lips
And keep my heartbeat strong.

This is one of my poems that took a lot of tweaking. I think I finally got it. :P Hope you like it!

I love this! I think that the third verse ("But every time I see you...") is so relatable and that's fantastic. It immediately made me go back to all of the moments I've had when "Too soon the present becomes the past." Thank you for sharing!
