Throughout peoples lives they have doubts and think twice about everything they do, in the most extreme cases some people lose all hope and don't see anything they can gain from being alive. For women and sometimes men in there late teens and early twenties they fall into the trap of getting caught up in the moment and think of the consequences of there actions. This mistake that they make applies to there relationships, as well as many other things. If a boy has been in a relationship for over a couple of months they tend to get very entwined in that persons life and can't see another way to live. If for any reason the relationship fails one or both of the people involved feel hopeless and don't realize that relationship was a very small part of there life. In The Awakening by Kate Chopin the main character Edna Pontellier is married, and is not happy with her family and her life in general. Throughout the book she becomes distant from her husband and her children, at the same time she begins to fall in love with another man, which in the time period that this book takes place would have been the most horrible thing you could ever do. In the end of the book Edna kills herself because she loses hope and can't see away out of the predicament that she put herself in. Although this book is important for anyone to read, people in there late teens or early twenties in a serious relationship should without a question read this book cover to cover and try to see the consequences of losing all hope and not being able to see the prospect of a better tomorrow.

In the novel The Awakening by Kate Chopin the main character is in a very bad marriage. Her husband is always out of town and when he is home he treats her very bad and calls her a bad mother. Like some marriages that came out of that time period if Edna and her husband were married today, Edna would have the option of getting divorced and not having to kill herself, or suffer for a long time. Not all relationships between young people are like this today but in some serious cases there isn't much of a difference. Edna feels that she is pressured into doing things with her husband because of his status in the community, “Perhaps-no, I am not going. I'm not going to be forced into doing things.”(183-184) Edna definitely feels that she is forced to do things. In the book there are a lot of comparisons to birds. Edna wants to be like a bird and the only way she can get out of relationship is to fly away like a bird which in her way is to die. The worst thing to feel in a relationship is a feeling that you have no say in the decisions or the other person doesn't listen to you. Edna was obviously feels disrespected by her husband and no person should have to go through that kind of treatment.

People in relationships should definitely read this book. Edna made a mistake and took her own life because she lost all hope and could not see that there was life beyond her husband. There is always the prospect of a better tomorrow maybe Edna would have been a successful painter and made lots of money but we will never know like everyone that has made the ultimate bad decision and killed themselves.
