Counting Streaks This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

By Gracieface3012, Clarkston, MI

Cozy on the cracked wooded patio
A peculiar place to cuddle up
In blankets and pillows of felt and cotton
The little sister
A near smaller version of the silhouette
To her left
Same wheat hair and glowing ocean eyes
Looks to the starry picture above their heads
Eyes widen to take in the vast image painted
Before them

Wishes already placed in the seams of their consciousness
They wait
A streak of light
A gasp of awe
The one of more years smiles at
The memory they make
Counting the stars that zoom to a new horizon
