They tell us to stop and smell the roses,
Sometimes they forget that there are thorns.

They tell us every cloud has a silver lining,
Sometimes they forget that silver tarnishes.

They tell us that it’s only icing on the cake,
Sometimes they forget that the frosting is the best part.

They tell us not to let the cat out of the bag,
Sometimes they forget that a cat is noisier inside than out.

They tell us not to put all our eggs in one basket,
Sometimes they forget we might only be given one basket.

They tell us that there’s a method to their madness,
Sometimes they don’t realize they might just be crazy.
