Behind Closed Doors This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

By Julia F, Fayetteville, AR

Purple rain
Flooding the battlefield.
Slaughtered plums
Gushing wisdom,
The wisdom
Of the dead,
Sharing the honor
With the fallen ones.
Bleeding –
Fuchsia blood,
Mixing in with
The foggy amethyst,
Gunpowder still fresh
In their chest.
Dying for us –
An honorable death.
Purple hearts
Scatter the field
Twice over.
Still hanging on,

An argument,
Wine spilled
Among friends –
Turning into
A war,
Blood poured
Among enemies.

The exaggeration of it all,
What happens
Behind closed doors
Doesn't always
Behind closed doors.
