“Drown” is a short story. It is a metaphor about the nationwide problem of bullying. It relates bullying to drowning, how slowly you sink into depression. I think I can relate to that. Everyone has bullied or been bullied, and I have definitely been very stressed out before. The story represents help as a captain keeping watch over the waters, who can tell when someone is “drowing” and dive into to save them. Not everybody would save someone if it meant getting themselves wet. I think that the captain represents a parent or therapist who can recognize when someone needs their help. The force consistently pulling them under is the insensitive bully, or too much stress from work or anything else. When you are completely piled with work, it can really get inside your head.
