Be what you would seem to be -- or, if you'd like it put more simply -- Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared.

You were black and blue
Glasses, a smart a**
I was timid and strange
Green and black
Posing as a bad-a**.
I dared to reach out
Lay a small white hand
Over your heart
Hammering to the rhythm
Of wild fans.
Do you remember?
You covered my hand with yours
And I dared to believe
That we were transparent.

Look two years into the future
This is us, who we will be
Who we are now.
But then, we were two strangers
Two stupid kids.
One, ironically awesome
Wrapped up in being enthusiastic
About nearly everything.
Two, bursting at the seams
Waiting for her chance, her life
Killing words and time.

Walking away that day,
Could you have guessed it?
