You Saved My Life

I was alone in the dark
Another sleepless night
Crying in my closet
I didn't know how to fight
Their words flooded my mind
Saying, "you'll never be"
My life got darker
And I just couldn't see

You got help and that inspired me
So I wanna say thank you

You saved my life
When I was up against the wall
You taught me to rise
When I felt like I would fall
You helped me live
Without you I wouldn't be here
And I thank you for that
Now I can breathe without fear
Thank you, thank you
You saved my life

I was so broken, but
You came and pulled me back together again
Wounded with a wandering soul
But you found me
And showed me what I need to know
Now nothing can break me
I'm beautiful and that's what I'll always be
You showed me the rainbow in the cloudy sky
And now the silver lining always catches my eye

You stayed strong
And that inspired me
So I wanna say thank you
(Because now I am free)

You saved my life
When I was up against the wall
You taught me to rise
When I felt like I would fall
You helped me live
Without you I wouldn't be here
And I thank you for that
Now I can breathe without fear
Thank you, thank you
You saved my life

You helped me find the music
You helped me find my soul
You helped me be happy
When my life was feeling low
I might not be here now
If you hadn't intervened
You, my friend, helped me
So now I can sing

You saved my life
When I was up against the wall
You taught me to rise
When I felt like I would fall
You helped me live
Without you I wouldn't be here
And I thank you for that
Now I can breathe without fear
Thank you, thank you
You saved my life

The author's comments:
This song is a duet that me and my best friend Aleigh wrote. It's to our favorite musical artists (Demi Lovato for me and Greyson Chance for her) who inspire our music, and more importantly, whose music has saved us in times of personal need. The first verse is sung by me. The line "You got help and that inspired me" references Demi Lovato's struggle with bullemia and cutting, and how she went to a treatment center. She got help, and it inspired me to get help for my self harming. The second verse is sung by Aleigh. The line "You showed me the rainbow in the cloudy sky" references Greyson Chance's song "Waiting Outside The Lines" where he sings "I'm here to help you notice the rainbow."
