I am an atheist. Now that I have that out of the way, we are on the same page. Just people sharing ideas. Unfortunately, the world is run by religion, whether we like it or not. The Pledge of Allegiance was even changed in the '50s to have more religion! Religion is supposed to be about love and a better world and a belief... So people try to say. I have read the Bible, three years ago, and I must admit it rather scared me. I had heard this book was beautiful and had nothing but love of some person who created everything in this world.

People use this book to hold this world back. There should be equal rights for everyone! (Yes, I am one of those people!) People use the Bible to argue against homosexual marriage. The Bible says many things people don't follow- not shaving your facial hair, men. can stone their wives if they cheat (or think they cheat), and slaves are a really big part of it, too. There used to be tons of slaves and prejudices against people who were of a different color (not to say there aren't now {cough Trayvon Martin cough}) and women had very little rights (still working our way up there!). So hopefully one of these days the definition of marriage will change to describe the union between man and woman, or man and man, or woman and woman.

There are many, many, many religions in this world. People who get into arguments with me about religion are constantly telling me that they don't need to see to believe, and their argument for their god being real is...

“Look around!”

Ah, yes, the man-made houses, schools, dams, play grounds, all of the books ever written (the Bible included), technology, etc., etc.

“Oh, no I'm talking about the Earth!”

Where is your proof?

“I don't need proof, I have faith.”

The ultimate argument: faith.

The Bing dictionary's FIRST definition of faith is “belief or trust: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof”. Now, trust and devotion are a great thing. They really are (no sarcasm, I swear). But the main part I want to focus on is 'without logical proof'. Logic is probably just as important as trust and devotion in this day in age. With as much information as humans know now, it is pretty dangerous to follow faith.

For instance, if a brother/sister/niece/nephew/child or really anybody were to drink some rubbing alcohol, the first thing most people would do: call poison control or quickly drive to the hospital/urgent care. That is the logical thing to do, because hospitals have the tools to help something that dangerous, and as we all know, poison IS dangerous. There are people out there who have extreme faith in a god, and don't believe in healthcare. They tend to believe in the praying system, which is supposed to be even more miraculous than healthcare. And this usually doesn't end up well. I say USUALLY because it isn't the praying that works, but how the people take care of the situation. (That is a whole different story though.)
