Love. When I look up on Google, “what is love”, many things come up including a couple songs. But I’m not looking for a song. I’m looking for an explanation on the thing I am feeling, whether it’s good or bad. Jim Al-Khalili says “Biologically, love is a powerful neurological condition like hunger or thirst, only more permanent.” So is love chemistry? This still doesn’t give me the answer I want. So I look on. Julian Baggini says “The answer remains elusive in part because love is not one thing. Love for parents, partners, children, country, neighbor, God and so on all have different qualities.” So now, love is a passionate commitment? Though I still have my doubts, love is probably the best thing that has ever happened to anyone. Maybe we can try again, you and I. Maybe, we can live with each others differences and look into each others eyes like they do in the movies — yours amber, mine a drab grey. Maybe, when we watch movies on Friday nights, you can lay your head on my lap and I can run my fingers through your silken, brown hair until we fall asleep. Maybe, there can be a “You and I” instead of awkward conversations when we bump into each other in the hall. Maybe, we can go back to waiting for each other at our lockers; me at your locker, or you at mine. Maybe, we can go back to the way things used to be. I miss you.
