As I took a step off the tube and towards the clean platform of London, I became clueless. My mind was diving into every different humans soul and I was determined to find someone who was like me. Someone who reminded me of home. At that moment it was all about me. I was in another part of the world, alone. Needing to rely on myself for my own good without anyone looking after me. Knowing I was miles away from home my chest began to ache. Everything was different. The people were different. Tall men in tuxedos with perfect jaw lines. Women with black pencil skirts and trench coats with their sunglasses blending between their hair and tucking behind their ears in heels, rushing to get to places as if it were the end of the world. When the train decided to depart the stop, I felt the humid breeze excel through my jacket and into my veins. Every persons mouth was moving, but no voices were heard. With my eyes blooming from every corner of the ceiling to every stain on the greyish floor, I thought about what was coming our way for the day. What it was that we will be seeing once we left the musty train station. I was eager to just run through the tunnel and get passed the exit to explore on my own.
One of our tour guides Richard slowly caught my thought as he begged us to surround him and listen to instructions. It was hard to concentrate mainly because there had been a man who was Tarzan’s look-alike standing by the exit playing his guitar and singing his heart out about a person he seemed to love. As the whole group shifted and walked passed Tarzan, I turned back and saw how never ending the tunnel was.
I questioned if that man felt hot since it was pretty sticky in there and he was singing his heart out to people who didnt even realize he was there.
I hoped to reach the unknown destination. As I approached the exit, I suddenly felt the gentle cold wind drift through my baby hairs. I closed my eyes and a second later I found myself staring at the London Eye. I gasped as I swallowed the cold air and found myself in shock mode. It was breathtaking in person than it was to stare at in pictures. I suddenly heard “Oh my god Alyson look”, I quickly turned to my right and glanced up. There it was, The Big Ben. I was standing in between the famous figures which I grew up seeing all of my life. I was in the heart of London. This was a one time thing. My chest suddenly stopped aching. My eyes could not resist the beautiful scenery. My mouth couldn’t stop gasping and my heart was beating uncontrollably. I could not believe I made it, here. I can finally say “I went beyond pictures”.
