Mrs. Drumm

When I was in the 6th grade, I moved to a new school. The school I

moved to was big on reading. I was not too keen on the idea of reading; in fact, I hated

it. I thought it was pointless and stupid. That was until I met a certain teacher

named Mrs. Drumm. She was my 6th grade English teacher. She is responsible for

the love of reading that I have today. I use what she taught me through that year

almost everyday, and I appreciate her for that.

Not only did she help me in English, but she also helped me become a better

reader. She taught me to never put a book down no matter how boring it is in the

beginning. Books can always get better when you continue reading them. You never

know what might happen on the next page. She showed me that when you read, you

can expand your imagination. Even to this day I still read frequently; I do this so I

can continue to grow my imagination. Also, some books have really valuable life

lessons that may help you one day in the future.

Another thing that she taught me was that reading expands your vocabulary.

Whenever I would come across a word that I didn’t understand, I would simply

mark the page and look it up in the dictionary when I got home. This helped me to

expand my vocabulary since this was an area that I had been struggling in as well.

I’m still looking up new words in the dictionary to discover their meanings. I think

that this is another one of the many important qualities of reading that Mrs. Drumm

taught me.

Mrs. Drumm is very kind, appreciative, and dedicated to her job. She loves to

work with kids. She is always has a positive attitude and says, “ Good

Morning” to you in the hallway. She not only spends every second she could to help

You, but she also gives you tips to help you become more independent. She builds

your confidence up so you don’t have to rely on the teachers as much. I have so

much respect for her and all that she has done for me. She has changed my life

completely with reading.

In conclusion, I really appreciate all that Mrs. Drumm taught me in the 6th

grade. She helped me not only to focus on my work, but also to discover the power

of reading. I think she deserves to be nominated because not many teachers have

the power to change a kid’s life with reading. As a result, I have become more

determined to finish a book and never give up hope on it. Reading taught me to

become less shy, more independent, and most of all a leader. I think Mrs. Drumm is

an astonishing teacher who deserves more than anyone to be awarded Educator of

the Year. For all the hard work and dedication I think she deserves an award.
