Our Story

This is the story about how I met the love of my life and my soul mate. Name’s Michael, I’m your almost typical guy, however I’m not your stereotypical jock. Yeah I play football, I’m the captain of the team, and I go out and party with my friends and hangout, but I’m different from my friends. I guess you can say I’m attractive; I have girls who would jump on the offer to be with me. They are all not my type, they are gorgeous but brainless. I am surprised that some of them could count to ten. I want a girl with morals and a girl that had talent, not some girl whose amazing talent is how long she can hold her breath. My friends were all about getting an easy score, that’s what makes me different, I’m in it for love not just for the sex but if I ever told any of my friends that they would think I was weird and possibly even crazy. I guess I was dreaming of an impossible girl. My mother raised me with morals and brought me up to treat girls with respect and not be the guy that uses them as objects. My mother is an amazing woman, she brought me up this way because my father used to beat her terribly and I swore I’d never become my father. I was always the one to comfort my mother, so I guess I’m just more mature than my friends since they didn’t have to deal what I dealt with.

I went to school to what stared off as a normal Friday, I was walking down the hallway with my friends when my boy Rick said, “So who are you brining tonight to couple’s night, I hear Sasha is dying to go out with you. She’s an easy score.”
“Nahh, I’m not taking her I told you I want a girl with talent, not an easy score”, I said as I shook my head.

“Well bro, you can’t show up alone again. Come on get a babe. We can all have fun together, and you deserve a little fun one on one time with a girl”, Scott said giving me a light nudge on the shoulder.

BAM! I heard a loud crashing sound with a side of laughter. My buddies started to laugh when they saw what the commotion was about. It was this girl Rose; she was a no one in our school. She didn’t have many friends and she didn’t really go out much. She was more on the nerd side, she loved to read and she always had her nose stuck in a book. She was a little awkward, but I never really talked to her so that’s just based off of what I’ve heard about her. I felt bad for her; someone must have thrown her books all over the floor. Her papers were everywhere and no one was helping her, they just walked by laughing at the site. Even my own friends walked right past her and snickered in front of her. I felt so bad for this poor girl. I went over, bent down and picked up her glasses and handed them to her.

“Here”, I said as I was picking up her papers and putting them in a pile.

“Thank you, you’re the only nice person that tried to help me”, Rose said as she kept her eyes to the floor.

“It’s no problem, you didn’t deserve this. Who did this anyways?”

“Just some jerk off on the football team, uh, well not all football players are jerks clearly, but uh, yea I think his name was Rick or something. I don’t really know”, she responded with certain sadness in her voice.

I was so infuriated, that’s not how someone is supposed to act. At that exact moment we both stood up and she made eye contact with me. I got these weird tingles in my stomach; I knew I had to take her to date night tonight. She had a brain, she’s in every honor society you could possibly imagine. I never really got a good look at her because her nose was always in a book or she always was looking down at the ground, but man when we made eye contact it was something else. This something I’ve never seen before, I couldn’t tell what got me so hooked on her from that moment on. Maybe it was because she was different or the fact she knew words that I didn’t normally use in my every day vocabulary. She had the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen in my life. I stopped and starred deep into her eyes, there was a beautiful girl with a brain in my school all along, I just didn’t have my eyes open enough to see it. “Hey are you doing anything tonight?”

“Well, besides maybe reading? No,” she replied with certain confusion in her face.

“Would you like to come to a couples night with me as my date”, I continued to ask.

“Haha, really funny. Listen I appreciate you helping me pick everything up but I’m not stupid. This is a big joke, you’re going to try to get with me, or I’m just going to be made fun of all night. Thanks anyways, I’ll decline now”, Rose said as she started to walk away.

I grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back, “Listen I’m serious, you’re the only beautiful girl in this school with a brain, I would be stupid not to ask you.”

She straightened her posture and looked confused, “You think I’m beautiful…. What kind of sick joke are you and your friends trying to play on me?”

“Listen let me prove it to you, can I have your phone number and I’ll really show you it’s not a joke”, I said with hope.

“Fine. Here”, she took my arm and wrong her phone number down with pen.

“Thank you, I’ll text you later today”, I smiled.

“Whatever you say”, she said with doubt.

After that conversation with Rose, I realized she wasn’t at all that awkward, she was actually pretty social and she seemed like a very cool girl. As the day went on I thought about her more and more I was getting really nervous for once. The school day finally ended and I was going to text Rose. I had a better idea. I went into my car and picked up a few things and headed to her house. Technology these days made it really easy to find anything you wanted. I showed up at her doorstep with flowers and a brand new book that wasn’t even on the shelves yet. I rang the doorbell, my adrenaline was pumping, I was so nervous I started to sweat a little bit. Finally she came to the door and opened it. She was the most enchanting human being I have ever laid eyes on. Her cute blonde hair, her beautiful crystal blue eyes, she even had the cutest little dimples. It was like I was in the presence of an angel.
“Wow, I was starting to think that you weren’t going to text me”, she said with a smirk on her face, I could tell she was happy with what I had brought for her.

“I told you it wasn’t a joke, do you believe me now? Will you please do me the honor of accompanying me as my date tonight”, I patiently waited for an answer. For once I didn’t know what the answer was going to be. I just prayed she would at least give me some sort of chance.

She looked at the book with pure love and excitement; I could tell she really loved the book. As a matter of fact when she looked at the book she looked at it like any other girl would look at a diamond. She took the flowers from me and smelled them. She had such a cute little nose. “Fine, it seems like you aren’t doing this as a joke. Don’t make me regret this.”

“Oh I won’t! I’ll pick you up at 6:30 tonight”, I couldn’t stop smiling, I was so happy I was going to get a chance with her.

“Ok, see you tonight.”

6:30 came around and I picked her up. She was wearing jeans and a blue t-shirt; I didn’t know that a simple look like that could look amazing until she wore it. Only she could pull it off, I starred at her in awe until she invited me in to talk to her mom. When I met her mother she seemed to be a wonderful individual. We finally got to my buddies house. They were all shocked when I walked in with Rose. Rose was a little uncomfortable and Rick apologized for earlier. After the first awkward twenty minutes we were all having a really good time. I’ve never seen Rose laugh so much, she had such a beautiful smile. This whole thing seemed so surreal. I was so happy I had a perfect girl.

We we’re talking for about a month and a half when I finally asked her out. I thought I knew everything about her but everyday she continued to surprise me. There was always a new fun little fact or cork that she had that she would reveal. For example I found out she was into comics, she knew all these little details about them that I didn’t even know, and back when I was younger I was a huge fan of comic books. We were the couple everyone wanted to be. We had fun doing the dumbest things. This one night she got snowed in at my house and all night we made forts and told stories to each other. Another time we went on walk on the beach having a dancing contest between just the two of us. She was my perfect match. She opened my eyes to a whole new way of life, I began reading more and we basically formed our own book club of just the two of us. She expanded my knowledge on life tremendously. Reading books became my escape now too. We would fight, but over stupid little things and it never lasted longer than 10 minutes. She somehow knew how to make me cave and apologize. Prom was coming up soon and I didn’t even ask her yet. So I thought long and hard what I could do. I thought about everything she liked and I didn’t want to ask her in some cliché way that any other girl would like. She wasn’t just any other girl, she was my girl. I knew it I asked her with any form of teddy bear, written “Prom” napkin note I would get the death stare. The answer would probably be no too. I remembered her favorite poem of all time, I read it aloud to her and edited the ending so that it rhymed and I asked her to prom, her eyes were filled with happy tears.

Prom came around and when I first saw her I didn’t know I could fall in love with her any more than I already was. She came down the stairs with such elegance; she put the queen to shame. She even had contacts in, she was my prize. It was such an amazing night; it was filled with laughs and memories. We’d been together for about 9 months. It was the best 9 months of my life. On graduation day we celebrated our 10 months. Summer together flew by. I can’t count the bonfires, beach dates and strolls and memories we made that summer. The next three years flew by.

Finally it was our senior year in college. I was going to purpose to her, I knew she was the one for me. We went to two different colleges but our love was strong enough to last and we were only a half hour away from each other. I finally bought a ring. I thought about how I would ask her. It had to be special, something out of this world incredible because she deserved that and more. I asked her to come down to my college for the weekend to accompany me to a big football game we were having. We had such an amazing time. From that moment on everything went downhill.

We started to fight. I said something stupid that really ticked her off. It was because of this girl Grace that was in my business class. Grace texted me always asking for answers for the homework or she was constantly asking me to hangout. This really pissed Rose off, I never acted on it though, I always declined her offers to hangout and go to parties. Rose thought I would leave her for this new girl but that was completely out of the question. I only had eyes for Rose and that wasn’t changing anytime soon. This was the biggest fight we’d ever had. She was screaming at me and her face was turning bright red. She accused me of cheating on her when we saw Grace at the football game and she tried to give me a hug right in front of Rose. I didn’t get what I did wrong, I only received the hug I never even hugged her back and she somehow formed this illusion that was cheating her with this girl. That made me really mad, I wasn’t going to be accused of something I never did, my mother raised me better than that so as a defense mechanism. I screamed back at her because I just wanted to freaking purpose but she didn’t know that, she was too focused on this whole Grace thing to let it go, she couldn’t leave it alone until I agreed to never talk to her again, she was being ridiculous. I had this whole thing planned out but she just wouldn’t leave it alone. I didn’t agree to stop talking to Grace because she should trust me considering I have never done anything that stupid to put the thought of me cheating on her in her freaking head. She slammed the door shut and stormed out of my dorm, but of course being the sucker I am I chased after her. I couldn’t let this stupid fight ruin what we had. She was being unreasonable. I just wanted to calm her down. She went out to her car and started it. She viciously whipped the car out of the parking spot and drove as fast as she could to the exit of the school. She tried pulling out to merge onto the highway. At that moment my world faded. She was enraged with anger I knew she wasn’t thinking straight to make sure she looked both ways. At that instant my life was over. I saw a big truck speeding crash right into the right side of her car. I was screaming and running, a lot of other people started running and screaming to the scene too. I dialed 9-1-1. They rushed her into the hospital. She was barely breathing and she was really banged up and bruised. Not only was I really sad, I was also really pissed. She ruined my perfect little plan because she was being her stubborn thick headed self and couldn’t solve the issue right then and there. She knew driving without a clear head was bad, she knew it was dangerous I guess it didn’t process in her head what a stupid decision she had made. But then it dawned on me, maybe if I just agreed to not talk to Grace this wouldn’t have happened. I took a few deep breaths and focused on Rose, it wasn’t the time to be mad or sad, it was the time to be there for her on her road to recovery.

“Baby, I’m so sorry, for everything. This isn’t fair, everything will be okay baby, we’re going to get through this”, my eyes were swollen, my voice was nasally and tears poured down my face, I tried to hold back I had to be strong for her and her parents sake.

She was clearly struggling to breathe, I could tell her heart rate was getting lower and lower. My heart broke more and more, she had to make it through this, she had to, we were supposed to be together. Surprisingly she woke up, her eyes barely opened but they opened up enough so that we could make eye contact. She replied, “It’s okay babe, I love you.”

I began to panic, it really didn’t look like she was doing well, her face had gotten paler than it was on the site of the crash. The looks the doctors were giving me were not comforting at all. “I love you too, this isn’t how I wasn’t to do it but Rose will you please give me the honor of being my wife. I repurpose when we get out of the hospital.”
She smiled that same beautiful smile I fell in love with at my friend’s house she managed to cough up the words “Of course babe.”
She started coughing even more than she was before; she looked like she was in a lot of pain. That’s when she started coughing and couldn’t stop. She shut her eyes slowly. She finally stopped coughing, but the doctors didn’t look too happy. Her lung had collapsed and they didn’t realize it before it was too late. The next thing I knew I was looking at a flat heart line. I was staring at her lifeless body, she looked peaceful, more peaceful than she was this morning. The doctors couldn’t bring her back to life. I held my beautiful fiancé’s hand and whispered “I love you baby, always have, always will, and this isn’t a joke.” I kissed her on the forehead and let her hand go. As farfetched as this seems it’s simply the truth, this is a one in a million chance of happening and I just was the one. It was going to be a difficult journey without her, she was the first girl I truly ever loved, the first girl to make me crave knowledge and look forward to the most unique things. She will always and forever be my first and only true love. One day we will reunite in heaven.
