I used to never live in Michigan, until that all changed about a year ago. I had only been to Michigan one time before I moved here. I had just turned 15 years old, ready to get my Florida permit, until my step-father got a phone call. The phone call was about a job here in Michigan, for Reinhart Foods. That one phone call would change my life forever.

It was toward the middle of May 2013, my freshman year of High School. My step-father, Steven, had already flown to Michigan for a job interview before. When he got back from the interview, he knew he had the job. At this point, I had to tell my really close friends that it’s a possibility that I am moving to Michigan. A couple of days go by, he received a phone call, Steve answers the phone and says, “Hello?” The other person on the phone said “Hello Steven, this is Bob from Reinhart Foods and we would like to inform you that you have received the job and we would like you start by June 11.” The start date was June 11, 2013, the day before my fifteenth birthday. So I tell my friends that I am for sure moving during the summer.

After telling my close friends about the move, we arranged a huge dinner, just my friends and I, at a sports bar and grill called, Houligan’s. We had made reservations for the last day of school, June 5th, for 10-15 people. Awesome enough everyone showed up, and it was one of the best times we had together. After the dinner, we all said our goodbyes, and of course, the girls in the group started crying, knowing it would be one of the last times they would see me. I mentioned to them, “I am already planning on coming back down, next summer to visit!” So we all decided to hang out with each other for the rest of the night. Waking up the next morning was one of the best feelings, but worst. School was out, which is a plus, but know I had to actually say my goodbyes to everyone.

For the rest of that Summer, till about Mid July, My mom, my brother Chris, my other brother E.J. and I  were packing the house and getting ready for the move. Since my step-dad was in Michigan, my brothers and I were a huge help in the move, even my brother E.J. who took off work to help us. A couple days past by, it’s moving day, we rent a huge semi and movers to help us. My mom tears up, “This is actually happening.” It was becoming so real for my mom at this point. After this, it’s time to hit the road, from Palm Coast, FL to Novi, MI. More than 18 hours in the car, we finally arrive to Novi, MI. We had to stay at the Marriott Towneplace Suites, a very nice hotel, but it was more like little condos or homes, because our house wasn't ready until September 1, two days before school started.

We get settled in our new home, get ready for a brand new school year. My family and I,  were ready for a new change. A change that will change our lives. Change, change is good, weather its a job, new home or even the kind of ice cream you eat. Some people like change, some people don’t like change, but no matter what, everyone should try change. Change is good.
