Gym class, balls scattered everywhere, boys and girls lined up touching the wall, waiting for the whistle to blow.

The whistle blows and right there you can separate the people who want to play and people who don't want to play. A group of girls walk into the corners and talk and are on there phones.

Gym teachers encouraging the girls to throw the ball and run around but no effect. This is a huge problem across the USA, kids not participating in gym class.

So many teens across america do not participate in gym. Girls are the main problem. Most girls are worried about their hair and not having enough time to change.

The New York Times did an interview with girls about gym. 13 out of 15 said they don't like it because “most girls don't like to mess up their hair”.  Schools across america are having debates about if they should extend changing times.

Experts say, “a national increase in inactivity among all age groups seems especially pronounced among teenage girls and is leading them on a path toward obesity and serious health problems that will linger into adulthood”.

This reporter did their own interview and say down with Destiny Rodriguez about gym. The reporter asked her “how do you feel about gym”. Destiny said, “I like gym, but I feel gym is very unproductive because so many people stand around”.
If gym is going to be unproductive then why have it. Teens need gym to get in good habits about exercise. Gym teachers need to teach teens how to exercise or they will have serious health problems in adulthood.

Some teens will still not participate. Maybe the schools should make changes to get more participation in gym. Extend changing times for girls so they can have time to “fix their hair”.  Have 3 or 4 different games to pick from, so they can pick what game they want to play.

Gym class is very important in teenage years so teens can have good habits in life. This is one way america can stop obesity by teaching the young ones how to exercise.
