I can’t have a real conversation anymore, everyone’s always looking down at their phone and missing the real connection they could be having in real life. With that being said I believe that my generation is addicted to their phone and social media. This is becoming a real problem. There’s so much to life and I think we should live it and not spend our lives having our phones control us. Instead of taking pictures and posting it to social media every time were on vacation, we should just enjoy the moment were in. I believe this because I’ve been guilty of it! I use to get on social media every chance I could get and I would spend hours and hours on it. Until I realized that being addicted to social media and my phone is just a waste of time. I really didn’t care what everyone was doing and posting, but I still was on my phone all day long. Social media is just a big competition and do you know how many times I’ve heard “Go like my post/picture” or “I got so many likes on that”. We should be working more on bettering ourselves then trying to take the perfect selfie or the funniest post or winning a twitter fight. I believe we’re truly addicted to our phones. Working at a restaurant I seat and also serve tables and I see a lot of families come in and I see a lot of couples come in. You think since they’re sitting across each other they’d actually talk and enjoy the time there having, but no they have their heads down and phones in their hands. A lot of parents I see just give their small child a phone instead of actually playing with them or talking to them. Not only do I see this at my work I see it practically everywhere I go. It’s very hard to have an actual conversation with my sister without her face being buried in her cell phone, I think it’s such a shame, but it’s true our generation is addicted to their phones and the social media on it. We can’t do the things we love without taking pictures of it and letting everyone know were actually doing it, we should be able to do the things we love without the cellphone in our hand. I see girls and boys ages 7 to 13 years old with cell phones, not only that but they have their own social media accounts on it! That is just ridiculous. They should be enjoying their youth, playing outside, or playing dress up and playing with friends. Not posting statues and pictures of everything they’re doing. It makes me so sad seeing everywhere I go everyone’s heads down looking at their phones. Talk to people face to face, give them your love not a like or a favorite. You don’t need to carry your phone everywhere, you don’t need to be constantly texting or tweeting, it’s okay to shut off your phone for a little bit and live your life. Like I said before I was once addicted to my phone. It was always in my hand, no matter what. As soon as I woke up in the morning I would go on it. Yes I would check twitter at 630 in the morning. Why? I really don’t know. Before I went to bed I would be on it for hours, sometimes it was so hard to go to bed because it was hard to get off my phone. I decided one day that this was all a waste of my time. I didn’t want to look back and say I spent my whole youth on my phone, worrying about how many likes I would get or reading tweets I didn’t care about. So I deleted the accounts, deleted the apps, and spent barely any time on my phone. At first it was weird to me, I kept trying to click on apps that weren’t there. That’s when I realized that our generation really does have a problem. Because it wasn’t just me, it was everyone. After a while it was refreshing and nice not having to worry about social media and constantly checking my phone. It was so nice actually going out and doing things and not taking any pictures or even taking my phone! Its okay to delete the applications, shut off your phone and live your life.
