Over the past years, college tuition has skyrocketed.College tuition has been incresing since 1978. Due to this, fewer parents are able to afford college for their children. I’m not quite sure why this has happened, but there have been many different reasons why. There are different factors to the increasing of college tuition, like professor salaries, construction on campus, technology changes, and state funding cuts. College tuition is more than inflation and costs more than medicare. There are a lot of students and people in loan debt because of this.¨ Unfortunately, there are still a lot of young people all across the country who say the cost of college is holding them back¨ President Obama said at Coral Reef Senior High School in Miami in March. Is college worth being in debt?

The rise of college tuition is outrageous. It shouldn’t cost thousands of dollars more for a higher level of education. The trend is not slowing down; it’s going to increase  more and more every year. Not only is this affecting people, but it is also affecting our economy. ¨”People are really struggling,¨ said Sandy Baum as she adds ¨increases in college tuition at public colleges, particularly in recent years, have really been unacceptable. And there’s no question that there is  a much higher percentage of median incomes than it used to be.¨  As a result of increasing of college tuition , the unemployment rate is high.

Something needs to be done about this. Obama tried to make community colleges free,  well more affordable, but it didn’t work. Obama said the following in his State of the Union speech,¨let me put colleges and universities on notice: If you can’t stop tuition from going up, the funding you get from taxpayers will go down. Higher education can’t be a luxury; it’s an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford.¨ I agree with Obama because there are kids that actually want to go to college and succeed further in life. With college tuition being high, people wouldn’t be able to do that.

The increase of college tuition isn’t  helping anyone. There are people who want to succeed in life and get a satisfactory job, but with college tuition being high it won’t happen. Bobby Scott said the following, ¨it is virtually impossible to compete in today’s global economy without a degree.¨ Your education is everything.
