War

Bam! Bam! All around me how did I get myself into this Bam! What’s that feeling I looked down I’ve been shot. I was in the middle of the battle there is no where I could go.

Earlier that morning I was getting ready for school when my mom turned on the news I just got a quick glimpse at it I wasn’t really paying attention there was lots of shooting. I got on my bike and I saw my friend Zach he was coming from his house. Zach told me what was going on I already knew about the war, I saw Pearl Harbor, but I didn’t know about the draft. We got to school I didn’t even get a chance to sit down there were these loud sirens the teacher yelled for us to get down.

I looked out the window and I saw these men carrying guns and shooting. Oh crap I had to do something so I ran. I went to the shelter and right when I got there a soldier yelled, “Take a gun and find others and get them to shelter and take down as many as you can!”
Take down as many as you can, what does that mean?   Then it hit me, he meant kill the bad guys. I didn’t even know how to work the gun let alone kill someone. I picked up the gun and practiced a shot at some glass. Me being a kid doesn’t matter anymore, it’s not like I could get arrested. I hit the glass then I saw a man with a knife running at me, but before I could think, I pulled the trigger. It was like slow motion. He was so close that his blood got on me. After I saw him there was this weird feeling; then I threw up. I ran as fast as I could then BOOM!  I flew up in the air and hit the ground. There was ringing in my ears. I couldn’t hear and when I looked back all I saw was fire and bodies.

It was hard to see all the bodies of the people who died, but I told myself that I wouldn’t be a wimp.  I would fight and die like a soldier. After that I just shot everybody I could see who was bad. I was running low on ammo so I picked up one of the soldiers guns.  It was a better gun than I had. I found some solders that were shooting. A man started yelling at me.
“What are you doing here? You’re going to get yourself killed.  You’re on the front line!”
It took me a while to realize what they had told me and I knew what that meant, my chances of living were slim. They told me if I’m here to help I’d better start shooting.

That brings me back to present time.  I had just got shot and there was nowhere to go I just sat there and shot my gun at anyone who went by.  I tried not to cry but it was so hard. Where is my family? Where are my friends? I wish we never moved from Indiana to here. Next thing I know I saw Sgt. Johnson picking me up it hurt so much. We were at a tree and he was talking and I noticed some blood I thought it was mine but he looked in pain. Then I saw his hand, scratch that? He didn’t have a hand. He asked me if I could walk I tried it hurt but I could.
“Take this grenade wait three seconds and throw it at that camp site” mike whispered to me.

We were right behind a little base.  I took it opened it waited two seconds not one more and threw it. BOOM! I saw this big cloud of smoke and then I saw the fire I was too close to the fire I flew back like in the movies I hit the tree then nothing. Next thing I woke up at the same tree with a white cloth over my wombs which looked more like red.
“You’ve been out for ten minutes” Mike told me.
I asked him if we could leave he told me they were still out there. I was in the middle of a sentence, BOOM! Another explosion it took down the tree we were visible before I started to panic I thought we could hide in the hole of the big tree. It was a pretty big tree I told mike and it took us a while to get down there it was perfect. With the butt of our gun we started to dig a tunnel so no one could see us. We put dirt down on us. Then I looked at my leg I realized if I don’t get help soon I was going to bleed out. I looked at Mike to tell him and that’s when I saw he was dead.

I tried not to cry because that’s what mike would’ve wanted. I heard a foreign speaking I took my gun and was silent. It was a couple of min. before they left but it felt like a lifetime. I didn’t want to go to sleep because I was afraid I wouldn’t wake up. I kind of dazed off thinking about my family and friends but then before I could do something someone had came down to the hole I took mikes gun before I could do anything I heard English which sounded foreign to me. I tried to scream but I couldn’t they found me and mike I told them I wasn’t moving unless they brought mike. It had been a long time since I saw an American almost a whole day which felt like a decade, I felt like chuck Nolad in castaway after he lot Wilson. When I got to the hospital I kind of blanked except for seeing my family and of course Mike’s family. I told them I was sorry they told me I was a hero and I did all I could. I had been in war for 20 hours I have been in the hospital for ten min. all I wanted to do was go back and help more people. In the next hour I went in surgery don’t remember anything, the doctors told me I was going to have a limp.

“You are going to have to come back for more surgery but you’re going to be fine” the doctor told me.

An army general came to me and gave me a medal of honor. When I got home I ran for my friends. My mom told me the bad news Zach had gotten shot trying to save me, and then I realized he was the person who pushed me out of the building. It has now been 23 hours and I had lost two great people but my mom told me I saved a lot more. I promised myself I would never stop helping people.

I want people to know that it wasnt just grown men who helped with the war even though my story was fiction there was a good chance that some children had to things that some grown men havent dreamed of.
