I have always been his home and sanctuary
where he works with tools to weld god-worthy weapons.
As he works the lava boils in me like rage boiling inside a man until he explodes.
His hammer crashes down on metal and shakes me incessantly.
Boom!
I can only handle so much at a time until I am forced to erupt.
I have heard the public judge his appearance as appalling.
They are just afraid.
They think he is evil because no kind man could look so terrifying.
Little do they know they are in the presence of a god.
They think he is linked to the sinking safety of the population.
I know what he does.
He does no harm.
He talks to me on nights when he feels low.
I am his cage where he locks his secrets and thoughts.
At times his face is ridden with tears.
He makes what gives gods the strength of millions
while he himself often finds no strength within.
He is alone in this great big world we have.
A volcano like me can wane no pain in a man’s heart.
But, I can be a safe place for him to run to when times are tough.

I enjoy studying mythology and I felt as though a poem depicting the life of Hephaestus through the eyes of his volcano would be an interesting perspective and help people in understanding his background.
