The Moon
The sun's shift in the sky is over and the sky darkens as he
comes to switch with me. As he descends down the stairway
leading to his resting place, the night air gets cooler. The sun
generously lends me a portion of his light so I might be seen as
I ascend the stairs of the night sky. I slowly make my way up
the stairs. The sky is not so dark anymore, and you can see
some light poured on earth's sleeping form. I smile as I
continue to rise. only to be so rudely interupted by a dog
awakened from his nap because of the moving shadows and
light I cast overhead. he starts shouting at me trying to figure
out what stranger awakened him. As he interrogates me, other
dogs living nearby awake. they are also startled by my
presence in the night sky and join in the interrogation. I have
no time to stop and answer their questions. So I silently ignore
them and keep going. i look back at them to show them I've
heard what they've said, only to find they're chasing me across
the sky. So i pick up my speed and eventually make it to the
top, leaving the relentless animals to themselves. the animals
tire themselves of barking questions and go back to sleep. As I
step onto the balcony that overlooks the earth, I sit in my chair
of clouds, waiting for my shift to end. But for now I look over
the railing, reveling in joy of all the peace the earth has to
offer tonight.
