I am giving feedback on "I'm Afraid of the Movies" by Emily Thomas. It is about a child who went with her father to the movie theaters on Novermber 2001. They went to see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for she was obsessed with J.K.Rowlings series. However, as she grew older, she began to grow more paranoid, "if a gunman enters the building, who will survive, where can you hide, who can I hide, will I die?" She has all of those worries about the movie theaters when she grew up, and they no longer are the same for her.

This was a brilliant story by Emily Thomas for she starts her memoir off very light, and it's happy for it's about a little girl and her father going to watch a movie. However, as the memoir progresses, it grows more morbid, and that creates tension for the reader. When I read "Too busy scanning the room for the perfect place to hide is a gunman enters the building," I relate to this for oftenly, I'm paranoid in areas where death can be right around the corner, much like Emily, much like most of the world. I feel sad that this world isn't how it used to be.
