Spider-man and venom:Maximum Carnage was released by Ljn back in The 90’s and did well back then and got a sequel. But how well does it stack up today?

Story:
The game takes a much darker story in the Spider-Man lore. The game begins with a few police officers taking Cletus Kasady to a mental hospital for ruthlessly killing people around town. Cletus talks to one of the officers and shows That he’s actually Carnage, a cruel supervillain with a symbiote suit that is more violent than venom. He proceeds to murder all the officers and heads to a nearby prison to “Practice” for when he see’s Spider-Man and slaughters everyone in the prison, except for a few who want to help him gain control of the city. The game now begins with Spider-Man heading downtown. After level one, Venom heads to fight carnage, but finds out he needs help from Spider-Man.

Gameplay:
The game is a simple beat-em-up. You move with the d-pad and attack or jump with the buttons. After each level you go to a character select screen where you can choose to play as Spider-Man or Venom. You can choose to play whoever you want to be whenever you want to be, or stay one character for the whole game. Venom is the stronger, but slower type, while Spider-Man is the faster, but is weak in attacks. You also get allies whose abilities change for whoever side their on. For example, if Captain america is your partner while you’re venom, captain will do a weak attack, but if your Spider-Man, he’ll do a strong attack. You use the environment To your advantage as well, with a lot of items around the level you can use, like a trashcan you can throw.

Visuals:
The game has great graphics that look like a comic book. The cutscenes are comic panels that you read after each level. The levels still retain the look of a comic, with “Pow!” and “Smack!” appearing on screen when you damage an enemy. The stages are bright and vibrant like one as well. The game has a lot of cameos, with captain america, iron fist, The fantastic four, and Hobgoblin making appearances as allies or bosses in the game.

Downsides:
There are some downsides to this game however. one of them is you don;t know who you’re going to get as an ally, so you’re left guessing until you play it again. The game is Extremely hard, and you can’t change the difficulty. you’re left with only a few lives, and getting another is rare. you can’t get more health if you take damage as well. lastly, (Spoiler!) The last boss is carnage himself, but you can never beat him without using a glitch in the game.

The score:
This game is still fun, but suffers from exaggerated difficulty. If you enjoy a challenge though, this game is for you. The game is only on the genesis or super nintendo, so if you want the game, find those one of those two consoles first. This game gets a 7.0/10.

My reviews are meant to tell people what a game is like with no bias in them. The score meter is 6-10 equals good to amazing, but 5-1 equals bad to horrible. I hope my reviews help others get the best game, book,or music piece that best suits what they want.
