Music, As A High

Recently everyone has been telling us to stay away from various different 'highs'; I'm not telling you that, but I'm not telling you that the only other 'high' is getting pumped on sports or some dorky pep rally, or something like that. I listen to society tell us this and think to them, haven't you ever gotten a music high? Aren't there days when you feel so isolated, so cold, that you just take to your room as if the thin paper walls of the sounds you are hearing seem like concrete boundaries that words, sweet like honey, cannot penetrate? I lay alone and put my headphones in. I like this feeling. Different songs tell me different stories, and they are each teaching me to feel a different way; they are showing me different colors. I turn on Bjork's 'All Is Full Of Love' and it feels like cool, serene waters are flowing through the vessels of my veins. I listen to Rammstein and those very veins soon reverberate with the thick bass, particles of me jumping to the sound, wishing to rebel from their prison. I play Trentemoller's 'Miss You' and feel like I'm alone in the world. Nothing can break the lonely shell I'm living in and crawl in, like a virus. Maybe that's not quite a high. Call it what you may- a low, a darkness, whatever you wish- but can't we do that anymore? Has society forgotten that you don't need the help of external emotion and encouragement to paint yourself a piece of art, that we can simply block out life itself and lie there, close our eyes, and let sounds enter us and change us? Despite what they are telling you, I will tell you this. 'Healthy' as it may be, you do not need a sport, or a hobby, or anything else to reach new heights in your mind. You need music. The world needs music. If we would all take to our rooms and watch the paper thin walls of the sounds we heard transform into impenetrable, concrete boundaries, we would all be better off.

This was sort of written to suggest that people should stop trying to find an external fix to their emptiness and maybe listen to some music. Every song does something different for everyone. See what you like.

HA! This was well done. I do this often at school and still my friends don't seem to notice even though a small part of me hopes that they will ask, but when they do I don't talk. Cause music.
