Childhood Trauma... and Bears

The forest I grew up in was full of life. It had gorgeous trees and beautiful animals. Where I lived we had a special name for mother earth's creatures, targets. The most common pass time for the children, in my neighborhood of only four houses, was to sit on the porch and shoot squirrels and birds with our BB guns and watch the fly away or scurry up a tree. After about thirty minutes I decided to go to my friends house and spend the day with the only to people my age. I went inside to get some food and more amo. On my way out I saw it through the window. It was larger than anything I had ever seen in my short, blissfully ignorant and reckless life. Sitting on my porch, staring at me with huge brown eyes, was a bear. I have seen many bears during the time I spent in the forest and national parks, but never one this big. However, the need to go to my friends house was greater than the fear I had for the bear. So I decided to go out the back door and make a run for it. When I started going around the house I realized I had gone the wrong way. The bear was on the porch about five feet above my head. As I slowly walking silently across the dirt under the porch bird seeds started falling on my head. The bear was eating the bird feeders. I was starting to come out from under the other side of the porch when I heard the bear start to move. Now I was afraid. I started to run but my short little legs could not carry me far. Luckily my friends house was only thirty feet away. When I reached the door I looked behind me. Slowly walking towards me, like a monster from a cheesy horror movie, was the massive bear. I ran into the door without even knocking and saw my friend playing guitar hero. For almost an hour we war he'd the bear. We stopped when animal control got there and got the bear out of the town.
