Water Lily Drifting This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

By juneday, Barrington, RI

Floating
disembodied
on the water
lilies spread wide,
spinning in giddy circles on a reflection of the sky.
like a blind child stumbling,
they bump against the smooth curve of stones –
recoiling
pain sends
red flashes
vibrating through the water …
A petal falls,
bright against the black pond,
drifting alone,
it is an uncrewed boat curled upwards by the waves –
swamped
before going under.
