   summertime

a smile splits my lips

as cool water

drenches my body

hot as cajun

the waves

i welcome like friends

with opened arms,

we dance together

the salt water pleases my tongue

as i run from the ocean

splashing drops

like magic dust

the sun

warms my back and

the soft sand is like

a goose down comforter

my toes dig deeper

into the sparkling chips

feeling moist

from the dampness of the sand

my ears

hear happy melodies

laughter

together

the echo of pleasure

i savor

the oreo-cookie ice cream

as it drips from

the sugar hat

leaving,

the ball of fire

simmers in the west,

i take home a pinkish glow
