In the 90‘s the University of Arkansas played a different style of basketball. They were coached by Nolan Richardson ,and played uptempo basketball. They were relentless and in your face for forty strait minutes making the opponent's life hell. The Razorbacks applied constant pressure.
The nineteen-ninety four Arkansas basketball team had all the right pieces in place to make a run for the National Championship. Nolan Richardson had assembled the best team in the NCAA with a superstar named Corliss Williamson and other big time players like Scotty Thurman and Corey Beck. They pressured opponents and when they caved in under the pressure the Razorbacks took advantage and ran away with the game.
The Hogs played Duke University in the National Championship game. A majority of the Espn analyst were picking Duke calling them the smarter team. Arkansas used that as motivation and beat the Blue Devils 76 to 72. Nolan Richardson became the only coach to ever win a junior college, NIT, and national championship. The Razorbacks were finally on top.
In 2002 Nolan Richardson was fired with two games left in the 2002 season. The clock on 40 minutes in hell had run out. Mike Anderson who played for Nolan and was his assistant for 17 years became the Arkansas head coach in 2011 and led the Hogs to a 18-13 recored. Even thought they will not be playing for a National Championship the 40 minutes in hell system is back in place.
