there is a man
an old man
back broken
a somber marionette
one hand reaches out
a jerky tug
by puppeteer
he holds a cup
he doesn't shake it
like the others do
let the quiet
jangle of coins
ring through the streets of san juan
i wonder what he might say
this aged puppet
if those rusted lips
could open
a cry for help
a sour joke?
i don't even speak spanish.
