Summary: Mary Jane has been shuffled from family to family since her parents died in a car accident when she was eight. But her newest home is with her eccentric aunt who lives in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Auntie Sally owns a beachside bar. She works from seven am to the time Sally and Mick’s On the Rocks opens- five o clock to midnight. But in the morning Sally is doing paperwork and attempting to cook with her partner-in-crime, Mick.
And so, when MJ arrives after her school in New York closes for the summer, at the oceanfront house (Sally inherited) she is sure to have a boring summer going to the beach alone everyday, and in the fall she will attend her junior year of high school online, (she experienced bullying in middle school and decided no one was to say whether it mattered if she went to school or just logged onto her laptop). Mary Jane is not thrilled about her newest situation, and is so very anxious about August ninth, the day in two years when she will turn eighteen and have to live totally and completely alone.
