Chapter 3

In homeroom, Candy and James sat at the back of the room on the couch. James loved the sound of Candy’s voice, every time she talked. But the main thing he was starting to like her for, was her eyes. They were a mocha colored, sweet, innocent, and long eyelashes that can attract you every time she batted them.
While Candy and James was talking and laughing on the couch, Vanessa Williams watched with an angry expression. The devil is a lie, Vanessa thought to herself. She will not take my man. That nasty little heifer! On the outside appearance, Vanessa kept her cool and didn’t say anything, but was huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf on the inside.

“So, Candy,” James began. “How are you enjoying life here in California?” he asked as he put his arm around her, and pulled her closer to him. Candy was so shocked at what just happened, that she didn’t have time to react, because of its smooth and quickness.
Being so close to him, brought a certain warmth through her body. It felt so good that she just wanted to stay there, exactly how they were, put her head on his big, broad shoulder, and fall into a deep, peaceful sleep. “Well,” Candy said as she lightly placed her hand on his knee. As soon as she touched him, she felt James shudder for a second. “Are you okay?” she asked. James slowly opened his eyes and looked into her mocha-colored eyes. They had so much care and concern, but beneath that, James saw love, embrace, and kindness. “Anyway, it’s been okay,” Candy started. “I mean, it’s not as exciting as my life was in Texas.” Blah, blah, blah, was all James heard. In his head, a song by Trey Songz was playing in his head.
