I Am Offended

I am offended.

I can't pray in public

I can't sing "Joy to the World"

I can't set up a nativity scene in my front yard-

I'm "Shoving Religion" down "people's" throats.

I am offended.

Everyone speaks during the "moment of silence"

No one says the Pledge of Allegiance.

It's ok to drop the "F" bomb

But if I bring my Bible to school I'M crazy?

I am offended

Atheists can publicly denounce GOD ALMIGHTY

Catholics can cross themselves

But BAPTISTS are fanatics?

I am offended.

Liars have senate seats

Fools represent our nation

PRAYER was taken out of school

and no one has protested YET?

STAND UP, AMERICA!!

Actually, legally you can do any of these things, so I really don't know what you are complaining about. A public school legally allows students to bring bibles to school, at our school they are brought in all the time. Students pray before lunch. The only thing not allowed in schools is that teachers CANNOT FORCE you to pray. That's it. No one can FORCE you or lead a prayer. I think you need to study up and wake up to realityland here. The thing that annoys me about most uber religious p... (more »)

But the thing about this argument isnt about who people are but about what they are trying to create or do. Such as having religion in school or calling Baptists fanatics.

You seem to think that if you are not able to impose your religion and oppression upon others that you are oppressed. In a way that is true. I support your oppression because you wish to oppress others. You wish to impose your religious institutions upon me. I am offended that you have the nerve to post this.

kind of paradox here. Your offended because Christ4Life writes down that shes offended by the way she's restricted in worship.

Not really. We have completely opposing interests. His/her interests are ones of oppression, bigotry, and imposing religion on others. Mine our of liberation, anti-discrimination, and freedom of AND FROM religion.

Not to butt in on a conversation, but where does the author say she wants to oppress people? I agree that most of the things she says actually ARE allowed, but there are some good points, like everyone talking during the moment of silence. The moment of silence isn't just for prayer, it's respect for the soldiers that have died for this country, so it's very wrong on secular and religious standpoints to talk during it. Also, bigotry is just thinking you're better than someone. You think yo... (more »)

bigotry- noun, plural -ries. 1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own. 2. the actions, beliefs, prejudices, etc., of a bigot. (that's from dictionary.com) I have never noticed people talking during a moment of silence but I would not care depending on what it is for. I would not automatically respect a moment of silence just for BEING a moment of silence. I would respect it because of what it STANDS FOR. If it is a moment of silence fo... (more »)

Actually, being a bigot is just being prejudiced, not thinking you're better, necessarily. Interesting article, but the author seems like kind of a downer, IMHO.

Huh, I looked up Bigot in the dictionary and you're right, it doesn't have to involve pride.  Oh well, point still stands.  Thank you though!  (I think the author sounds like a downer too, even though I'm Christian)

1) Who are you to judge the deaths of those troops?  First off, soldiers don't decide what they fight for, second off, plenty of people IN THE PAST have died for the freedom of this country.

Respect them if nothing else.

And finally, Christianity isn't the sum of it's followers, you need to judge it apart from what other people shove down your throat.

@Breece6-

This is not really a discussion about troops so this will be my last comment on that. I am not obligated to respect anyone. I do not blindly respect any soldiers. They are imperialist foot soldiers for a murderous capitalist regime that I do not support.

Onto the Christianity comment. Whether I agree or disagree with you statement makes no difference because once again, that is not what we are talking about. The Church has played an important and reactionary hi... (more »)

Right so, this country is not an Anarchist society.  People pay taxes because this country is a democracy, meaning that the law is

So if respecting the moment of silence is considered by the majority of people to be in the best ... (more »)

I said I was done talking about your ridiculous relation between this topic and the topic of the troops so I will not bother rebutting your statement on that.

Not only is your understanding of government and anarchism seriously lacking but you are advocating oppression under the guise of "democracy".

I do not have a problem with a person holding spiritual beliefs. That is none of my business.

What we are talking about here is the aplication of religious beliefs onto socie... (more »)

*sigh* I really don't know where to start with this one. First, I'd like to say that your whole argument depends on the logical falacy of appeal to authority and the status quo.

You are also under the delusion that we are a democracy. We are not. We are a capitalist democratic republic.

You could not be more incorrect. Socialism IS democracy. Socialism is the extension of democracy to the economy.

Maybe I worded my sentence so it was hard to understand. I do not have a pr... (more »)

1) I don't understand your meaning of "status quo" in this sense, however how is "appeal to authority" a logical fallacy?  It's a stance, that doesn't mean it's illogical.

Yes we are a capitalist-democratic republic, no matter what the name is the system of power still remains in the fact that the common people are represented by elected agents and that the common people's interests are expressed in our government.

The common people's interests are merely talked about. Politicians will pretend to have plans to act on people's interests in order to win elections. After that point, it is solely up to their discretion what happens (at least until the next election). The president has the power of executive order which carries the effect of the law.

Every society needs people of "ethical opinions that are not shared by the general population." If all of those people left the countr... (more »)
