This I Believe

I believe that it is crucially important to be rooted into a local church, not just any church, but the right church. I also believe that when a Christian finds a church home, that’s where God needs them to be. Going to any “good” church is not the same because the people at your church home, especially the pastor, are the “village” that is going to help you grow spiritually. And in that village, God has an appointed mentor to stand by you, pray with and over you, and help you through your spiritual journey.

Word Alive Full Gospel Church Int’l, WACI for short, has been my church home since before I knew the true meaning of the term. I grew up in that church, which actually started a month after I was born. I’ve gone to several different churches, but none of them has ever felt right. When I go home, it’s like all my problems, any bad feelings I may have had coming up the stairs, just disappear, and I get washed over with an overwhelming feeling of peace and joy. In my mind, I can hear a voice telling me that I’m home.

The people in that church aren’t just anybody, they’re my family, and it’s not just because they are my brothers and sisters in Christ. Most of the people there, I’ve known as far back as I can remember and they’re like aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, grandmothers, and second parents to me. My Bishop is an awesome man of God who I see as a father. Through his teachings, I have learned so much, and practically every Sunday, it’s like the messages he preached were directed at me. Last year during a youth retreat, I met my mentor, Samantha. She’s been such a blessing to me over the past year, and has not only helped me mature spiritually, but mentally as well. Just about every person at WACI at some point in time has helped me become who I am today.

Word Alive isn’t just a church that I go to; it’s my home, where my family is, and where, for this point in time, I belong.
