a chorus of wails chilled the morning sun,
as assemblies of train passengers mourned:
appointments now betrayed, jobs left undone.
inconvenient nuisance - no one was warned.
we heard the grim news just minutes before.
in our ears rang that dreaded, familiar tone.
a woman had dashed to cheat time once more,
rushed against the clock, espresso and phone
firmly gripped, stilettos clanged the platform ...
we felt her plight, knew temptations of fate,
saw professionals in flight who conformed ...
but we, mere victims of Circumstance, late?
now that is an outrage most undeserved.
I’d call it tragic - the witch had some nerve.
