Ode to Grass
You sway lightly
In summer breezes
You match the sun
When you are not fed
You do not care much
For your surroundings
You are content with
Merely just
Being
You will be stepped on
But that’s life
And you don’t mind
You get right back up again
And when you are covered
By that thing you dread
The white
From the sky
That majestically falls
And
One by one
Covers you up
Then what happens?
No one thinks about you
No one misses you
You are still
Content
When the sun melts the snow
And you appear once more
You feel free
Refreshed
Alive
Again
But what happens
When your head is chopped off
By whatever comes along
You do not mind
You will grow back
You are content
And isn’t that
The envy of all
Of us?
