If the trees could talk,
And if it were speaking to a spruce,
It would wonder why they were suffering
The metal saws painful abuse?.
If the trees could talk,
And one was chopped down in the night,
It's friend would start to weep and say
'Everything will be alright.'
If the trees could talk,
And a cedar was aflame,
It would say the hikers cigarette,
Never was to blame.
If the trees could talk,
And a little sapling had begun to grow,
The tall one would say that little thing
'Still had a ways to go.'
If the trees could talk,
And they could converse with the birds,
They would ask for them to sing a song
And try to make up the words.
And if the trees could talk,
And always wanted peace,
The chopping down of trees would stop,
And anger would forever cease.
