The days since I’ve stood upon this earth,
I cannot count,
And the last moment I breathed in this air
Feels so long ago.
Senses heightened to a smell I used to know:
Overturned dirt,
Sprinkled rose petals,
Mahogany casket spray painted oil
Fluttering up to the sky
Like bubbles gasp for the oxygen above.
Familiarity suddenly blossoms
Before me.
Enlightened and devastated at the rewinding memory,
We share these ghosts like tattoos
Under our skin,
Compasses to find our tombstone in the afterlife.
Drink,
For our days go unnoticed.
Until then, my loving mother.
