I Tried To Be Her

I tried to be her,
It never worked, it never worked.
I tried to be me,
It never stuck, it never stuck.
I tried to be perfect,
It was all wrong, soon I was gone.
Into something I knew nothing about,
Senseless words coming out of my mouth.
I couldn’t find you in the dark,
Even in the room so lit.
She had you hidden,
All alone, you were alone.
I knew what would happen,
I’d lose you now, I’d lose you now.
The only thing,
That will ever work, that will ever work,
I think about it every day;
Know what it is?
Because I’m lost,
Now I’m lost, now I’m lost.
I’ll find myself,
Over again, once again.
I’ll retrieve the self I lost,
Trying to be the her you want.
But in it all,
I know that I’m not who you want.
If I become her,
Would you want me?
You could love me then,
Mend my heart, this fragile heart.
For she has it all,
On a plate, all that I want.
She just won’t see it clear,
For she is blind, just so blind.
You hand it to her,
Into the wrong, rough hands.
You know where it belongs,
But I tried to be her, I tried to be her.
And it never worked, it never worked.
And I lost myself in your eyes,
Forever to gaze into hers.
Promise you’ll see me in them,
The girl I tried to be, the girl I tried to be.
