This Heart

This heart is by no means perfect.
It is slightly uneven around the edges,
a little unsure.
It is self-conscious and has sarcastic tendencies.
It is witty and loves to tease, in fact,
It may even have a mean streak.
It’s more than a little lonely,
perhaps bordering on desperation.
It makes mistakes. Often large ones.
It doesn’t want to get hurt.
Even so, it wants desperately to be loved.

This heart is not perfect,
But when it loves it loves wholeheartedly.
And you shouldn’t criticize it,
Because it’s yours.
