Cookies

I make the dough and roll it up into I tight ball
It taunts me from the fridge as I wait to take it to you
So we can bake them together
I bring my cookie cutters
We spread the dough into a thin sheet on your table
It sticks- more flour is an order
You cut them so perfectly
I just slapped down the shapes and pressed a plethora of chocolate onto each one
You diligently lift each peace and put it on the cookie sheet
The ones I mess up I just ate
Soon you did the same
We would giggle when they fell apart
And laugh uncontrollably when there was cookie dough on our faces

We sang so loud at some points I was sure your neighbors would be disturbed
And we did dances that… well that just shouldn’t be done in public for people may think we are disabled

In the middle of sentences we would burp-
Which just made both of us laugh even more
By the time the oven is preheated
Our stomachs hurt
Our voices tired
Our bodies ready to slumber
We sit silently on the kitchen chairs
Dozing a bit

Silence

The oven beeps three even times
We look at each other and race to it
Our bodies alert at once
A brilliant aroma envelops the home
As the oven door is pulled open

I think those were the best cookies I ever tasted in my life
Even with all the extra flour
The messed up shapes
And the dirty dishes that came after
I think they only tasted good
Because we had so much fun making them
