You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love. <br /> Henry Drummond

Anticipation starts two months before kick-off
Soccer fans are a-buzz
because a beautiful, wonder game
between two storied rivals is about to come into play

Barcelona and Real Madrid
the two soccer strongholds of Spain
divided by social

economic

political

soccer

L I N E S

Barcelona, the Catalan giants
the ones in maroon
historically lower-class underdogs
but always rises to the challenge
lead by the one and only Lionel Messi

Real Madrid
draped in white
rich, snobby
and historically having the upper-hand
their captain’s Iker Casillas
and nobody would have it any other way

The anticipation has risen to its climax
the predictions have been made
trash has been talked
the fans are ready
in their supportive clothing and flags

The whistle blows!

And a hush went over the crowd
as the game gets under-way

As the game gets into-play
the stress mounted on worried fans
tempers rise

Barcelona does its legendary passing
Real Madrid does wonderful defending
Both teams have wonderful opportunities

But still no goal at the 90 minute mark
the game goes into over-time

Just as everyone predicted penalties
Real Madrid’s wonderboy,
Cristiano Ronaldo scores a magnificent goal

A goal that makes every penny
of his 132 million dollar sum worthwhile

Just as soon as the game begins
it ends

Until next time, El Classico
until next time!

Here some background information for people who don't know soccer:

Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two best teams in Spain. They also have this amazing , epic storied rivalry. This game is actually the anticipated game of the year for anyone who likes soccer. And this year, they play five times! (They usually only play twice) So inspired by last El Classico(which was last week and another's coming tomorrow!), I wrote this poem. Enjoy! :)

How do you know I hate the picture?

I actually like the picture, it just isn't right for my poem.

But I can see how you hate it. :)

It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

LOL Sorry Aderes18, I liked the poem but I could see why you hated the picture.  I actually don't think it looks too bad, adds a bit of SUNSHINE XP just kidding.

Ah, yes. That certainly helps.

Wow. I admit, I didn't come to this page with high expectations, because sports are certainly not my area of interest. But you kept this poem exciting to the very end, so I ended up rather liking it, even though I didn't know the context. Nice work!

I agree, that sports poems seem to have a different feel to them than other poems. :)

Wow, Thanks.

That's the best compliment I have ever received on my poetry.

It's OK. :)

That's so cool, that's always been a dream, hiking in the Himalayas.

Quite a lot of anticipation is expressed in this poem. Poems about sports seem to have a very different feel to them. I think I can tell you are an avid soccer fan from this poem :)
