Summer

The Summer Sun beats down
relentlessly
from overhead,
even the flowers are wilting
begging for one drop of rain.
Deprived of water,
ponds, rivers, and lakes
start to shrink.
The ground cracks,
once solid ground
splits
wide open.
Animals lay in the shade
tongues
hanging from their mouths
a desperate attempt to cool off.
And people
seek shelter indoors
away from the heat.
