We would run through the field
The smooth silk of grass between
Our toes.
You would let out a laugh that
Would sift through the air like
Bubbles.
And we would dance without rhythm
Or care.
Then fall to the ground in a heap
Of giggles and youth, so free ,and
Innocent too.
And as the sky faded into
Brilliant pink and orange, sunsets
So pretty. "Smile" you would say,
And I would.
For you.
And everything would be OK
For just that moment. The world
Would spin just a moment longer,
For you.
And the kiss on my cheek would linger a
Second more as you stood, smiled, then
Turned to leave.
"Till, hop scotch after school." I would
Whisper and only you would know what to say.
Nothing.
