The Journey | Teen Ink

The Journey MAG

They say it’s all about the journey, I used to disagree.
Because I loved the destination but now I start to see
That when I finally get there, I think about the time
When we outsang the radio and thought we sounded fine.
The many fights that made Dad say, “I’ll turn this thing around!”
And how easy we’d make him laugh to calm him right back down.
The countless times we took a stop to stretch our legs were great,
Because space can get pretty tight when the car is packed with eight.
We all took turns to close our eyes and have a little nap
Or listen to whoever drives get lost and blame the map.
Oh how I love it in the car when we’re all having fun
So how I hate when we arrive and all of that is done.
Next to the pool, with earphones in, those times I can’t recall
But memories of getting there always do stand tall.
So Destination, here we are, but not as a family.
And as for me, I now agree, it’s all in the journey.

Great rhyming, but work on taking out small words to keep a fast steady rhythym. That'd go great with the rhyming.

I liked this poem.I think that people can look at it in many different perspectives, meaning, that when I read it, it kind of reminded me about life, and how life can sometimes be seen as a journey, and the journey is what counts the most. The journey is what is most cherished. It was great!!! I wrote alot too, but none got into the teen ink, just teen ink raw..=(..one's called- the beginnig of a journey and its under Manijeh A.

I love this poem. It's a simple concept, and the rhyming adds to it :]

Cute, but it does not hit home. The rhyming made you piece stronger. Try to write about something people could relate to better though.

this is one of the best poems i have read in a long time. whoever is complaining about the rhymes is a moron. they are clever and flow with an amazing ease. so the last line could use some rethinking: it doesnt ruin the poem. as a few other reviews have said, it has a meaningful, relateable purpose. i would have a hard time not giving it a 10 in any category.

This poem is really good i thought it had a great concept but you did have some rhyming problems, but from a scale of 1-10 i'll give you an 8.

The concept is fantastic and easy to relate to, but the rhymes seem to be immature and disappointing.

I could really connect with this. Every summer I take a vacation with my mom and step-dad, then one with my dad. Although my siblings and I are allowed to bring friends on both trips since we don't get along too great with each other, in the car we all talk and joke around and have a good time, sure we have our complaints too but when I look back on it I'm glad to have the memory.
