A merciful scream escapes from the hollow
of the day’s frigid storm
as I sink deeper into the ice-covered pond.
The cold bites viciously at my toes,
cutting into me with terrible force
all too quickly I am attacked from all sides
freezing.
Slipping into a darker realm
a gust of memories wash away my vision
as my mind replays all my regrets.
Remorse stings more painfully than the cold.
